5 Signs Your Pool Liner Needs to Be Replaced
By Your Local Pool Guy

Your Pool Liner Will Not Last Forever

Most vinyl pool liners last 7 to 12 years depending on maintenance, sun exposure, and water chemistry. But many homeowners in Northwest Indiana do not realize their liner is failing until they have a real problem on their hands.

Here are five signs it is time to call for a liner replacement:

1. Fading and Discoloration

If your liner has lost its color or developed bleached spots, the vinyl is breaking down. Faded liners are thinner and more brittle, which makes them more likely to tear.

2. Wrinkles That Will Not Smooth Out

Some wrinkles are normal as a liner ages. But if you are seeing large wrinkles or bunching that was not there before, the liner has stretched beyond its ability to hold shape.

3. Cracks or Tears

Small tears can sometimes be patched, but if you are finding multiple tears or cracks along the seams, patching is just buying time. A full replacement is the better investment.

4. Water Loss

If your pool is losing more than a quarter inch of water per day beyond normal evaporation, you likely have a liner leak. In NWI summers with the heat and humidity we get, evaporation can mask a slow leak, so keep an eye on your levels.

5. Staining That Will Not Come Out

Mineral stains and chemical stains that do not respond to treatment are usually embedded in the vinyl. At that point, the liner is deteriorating from the inside out.

Inground and Above Ground Liner Replacement

Your Local Pool Guy handles liner changes for both inground and above ground pools across Lake County, including Crown Point, Munster, Lowell, and surrounding communities.
